It’s Great Big Green Week in Tisbury!
On Tuesday 11th
There will be a Green Quiz night at The Boot Inn, High Street, Quiz starts at 8pm. Book a team in now – contact Oli on Facebook or call the Boot on 01747 870363. This will replace the usual quiz night which would normally have been held in the regular slot of 3rd Tuesday of the month, the 18th June.
Also on Tuesday evening, the History Society are hosting a talk at the Hinton Hall about the history of English wine, with wine expert Rob Blackman. This is a change from the previously advertised speaker. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available before the meeting from 7 pm and the talk begins at 7.30pm.
On Wednesday 12th from 10am to 12noon the Tisbury Memory Group will meet as usual in the Hinton Hall.
On Wednesday early evening, the circus is coming to town! Happy's Circus will be at the King George V playing field by the Nadder Centre. Organised to raise funds for St Johns School. Happy's Circus are one of the few environmentally-friendly circus troupes in the UK Gates open at 4.30 with food and drink available plus a chance to meet the performers. The show starts at 6pm. Advance single tickets are £10 and Advance family tickets are £35 (for up to 4 people including 1 adult). Tickets are available from Coffee Angels or St Johns School.
On Friday the 14th there is a workshop for artists on Self-Portraits at the Summerleaze Gallery in East Knoyle, tutored by Anthony Connolly, president of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. Go to www.josephinec.co.uk for more details.
On Saturday 15th all sorts of things are happening! Of course it’s Tisbury’s Fete on the Football Field from 12 to 5pm to raise money for the Tisbury Carnival in September. Expect live music, classic cars, tug o war, wheelbarrow races, stalls, a bar, refreshments and lots more.
Also on Saturday all day from 10 to 5.30pm, there is an open garden at Spilsbury Farm on Tisbury Row, owned and designed by Lady Tania Compton, in aid of Julia’s House hospice. Online booking is essential. Reserve a 1 and a half hour time slot online at the Julia’s House website juliashouse.org. Entry is £15 per person.
On Saturday morning Tisbury Footpath Club is organising a 6 mile circular walk around Ugford, Burcombe and the Punch Bowl. A mixture of water meadows, woodland and downland tracks with lovely views. Leave Nadder Close Car Park, Tisbury at 9.15am. Walk starts at 9.45am from the public car park by Wilton Primary School, Burcombe Lane, Wilton.
Also on Saturday morning the Communitea Café Breakfast takes place at the Methodist Church from 9.30 to 12 noon.
And just opposite on the other side of the High Street, the Country Market is in the Victoria Hall on Saturday morning from 10 to 11am.
On Saturday evening there will be an opera on film called Andre Chenier at the Victoria Hall at 6.30 for a 7pm start. Sung in Italian with English subtitles, the story is set in 18th-century Paris during the French Revolution. Tickets are £15 and can be bought from the New Vic Tisbury website: newvictisbury.com
On Sunday 16th there is a film at the Victoria Hall at 7pm, called Exhibitions on Screen: My National Gallery. This is a Seventh Art production which gives voice to those who work at the gallery in London – from cleaner to curator, security guard to director – who identify the one artwork that means the most to them and why. Tickets are £10 and can be bought from the New Vic Tisbury website.
